Purpose of the Trust Board

The purpose of the Durham Tees Valley Probation Trust Board is to support and monitor the delivery of the Probation Service in the Durham Tees Valley area. There are 35 Probation Trusts throughout England and Wales. Each year the Trust Board is responsible for agreeing an annual plan with the Secretary of State, which reflects national objectives and how they will be delivered in the local context. The Board regularly monitors the implementation of the plan and produces an annual report.

The Trust Board is made up of non-executive and executive members who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the local area. The Trust Board non executive members are selected in open competition by the Secretary of State. Together the executive and non executive members, establish a strategy for the work within Durham Tees Valley Probation Trust, prepare an annual plan and budget, and most importantly monitor and assess the areas performance. The Probation Trust’s aims are to reduce reoffending and increase public protection. Clearly this can only be achieved in cooperation with other organisations such as the Police, the Courts and the Prison Service.
