Custody

If an adult offender is sentenced to a custodial sentence over 12 months or a youth is sentenced to a period of imprisonment, the offender is allocated an Offender Manager located within the offender’s home area. Where possible the Offender Manager will attend reviews chaired by the Prison Service when the offender has completed an offending behaviour programme during their sentence and will chair sentence-planning boards for offenders assessed as presenting a high risk of harm.

The Offender Manager will keep in contact with the offender during their sentence, make contributions towards their sentence plan and make preparations for their release including any risk assessments for early release on Home Detention Curfew (HDC) and Parole. The Offender Manager where relevant will apply for additional licence conditions to be placed on the offenders Licence in order to manage the individuals risk and need.

The Offender Manager will supervise, monitor and enforce the offender on licence until this expires, completing specific work regarding their offence and referring to Partnership Agencies in the Community to support successful reintegration, working towards reducing reoffending and harm.

Use of Video Link

There has been an increased use of the Video Link facility within the courts across the Trust, which enables the court to engage directly with an offender during periods on remand, working towards a more efficient and cost effective way of working.
