Some offenders are required, as part of their community order, to attend national accredited programmes designed to address attitudes and behaviour that contribute to offending. These can also be made as part of a licence requirement following release from prison. Durham Tees Valley Probation Trust delivers the following programmes:
TSP - Thinking Skills Programme
TSP consists of both group and individual one to one sessions for male and female offenders. The programme is based on the premise that the ability to acquire, develop and apply a series of problem-solving and associated skills will enable offenders to manage difficulties in their lives and to avoid future re-offending. The programme focuses upon factors influencing offending behaviour such as problem-solving, self-management, social interaction, values and the individuals’ specific offences.
CALM – Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage It

Its goal is to reduce aggression by targeting anger. CALM is available as a Programme Requirement of a Community Order or Suspended Sentence Order and must be accompanied by a Supervision Requirement. It is for male offenders aged 18 or over who have a pattern of violent and aggressive behaviour and whose current offence includes Violence/Threat of violence, Physical damage to property, Public order offences and where there is evidence of anger and a loss of emotional control.
CDVP - Community Domestic Violence Programme
CDVP is a nationally-accredited community-based groupwork programme designed to reduce re-offending by adult male perpetrators of domestic violence. When an offender is sentenced to participate in the programme, partnership working is crucial to the risk management and safeguarding of women and children. Ongoing liaison by key organisations, such as police, probation, children’s services and housing is continued throughout the duration of the offenders order or licence when directed to attend CDVP. A key part of the programme is the service offered to victims and/or current partners of the men on the programme.
N-SOG - Northumbria Sex Offenders Programme
NSOG is a nationally-accredited programme based upon research into what works to prevent sexual re-offending. It can be a Requirement of a Community Order or Suspended Sentence Order or a condition of a licence. The programme is suitable for men aged 21 and over who have committed contact or non-contact sex offences against children or adult victims of either gender. It is not suitable for female sex offenders, men with an IQ of less than 80, men with mental health problems or severe drug/alcohol misuse, men assessed as psychopathic or men in total denial of their sexual offending.

Offenders below 21 will follow the programme on an individual basis with their probation officer. It can be a Requirement of a Community Order or Suspended Sentence Order or a condition of a licence.
